Youth Council

What is the Youth Council?

The YWCA NWT Youth Council comes together once a month for fun outings, create e-portfolios, meet Women of Distinction, and to plan a YWCA Day event showcasing Canadian women’s history, culture, and heritage! After celebrating amazing women in our communities with our “Badass Women of the North” project, YWCA NWT has decided to extend the Youth Council to include women across Canada. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet new people, have fun, and learn about the incredible contributions women have made to Canada.

The council is still looking for members. Upcoming meetings:

Who Can Join the Youth Council?
Currently, the Youth Council is open to young women (including trans women/gender non-conforming/non-binary/femme people) who are 14 to 29 years of age.
Youth Council activities and events are eligible for “CALM” hours. Sharpen your leadership skills with causes YOU care about! The Youth Council will create and deliver YWCA Days -  but don’t worry, you will have a dedicated YWCA staff member to support the Youth Council along the way! As well, YWCA NWT pays for all activities and events. We can also pay for transportation if it is a financial hindrance!
What is the time commitment?
1 Youth Council meeting a month (2.5 hours each or less), which includes:
·       Youth Council Field Trips (chosen by the Youth Council).
·       1 YWCA Days Event held before March 31st, 2017 (determined by Youth Council).
In the next few months, you will see YWCA Youth Councils all over Canada filling the Think Big! Start Small! Event timeline here:
