Coats for Kids, and their parents too
October 1-15
(Yellowknife, Oct. 1): YWCA Yellowknife is kicking off its annual Coats for Kids campaign on Friday, October 1. The purpose of the program is to collect winter coats in that have another winter’s wear in them and give them away free of charge to kids and families who need them.
We are also welcoming donations of hats, scarves, gloves, mittens, snow pants and boots.
The Coats for Kids campaign for donations runs Oct. 1 until Friday, Oct. 15th. Winter coat pick up will take place Oct. 8, Oct. 14-15 at the Centre Square Mall during regular mall hours.
There are drop off locations for Coats for Kids in every part of the city. Donations can be made at the Yellowknife Multiplex and the YWCA Yellowknife administration office at Rockhill, 4904-54 Ave. Drop a coat off at CBC North on Forrest Drive, and you can enter your name to win a brand new limited edition Arctic Winter Games jacket.
As well, four local stores are supporting Coats for Kids by offering a 10 per cent discount on a new winter coat in exchange for an old coat that’s clean and in good condition. Those stores are For Women Only, Mark’s Work Wearhouse, Overlander Sports and Weaver and Devore Trading. The discount program is administered by the store.
Last year’s Coats for Kids program collected hundreds of coats, including a donation of $1000 worth of new children’s coats from Sir John Franklin High School’s grad committee, a couple of fur coats and Snow Goose parkas.
