2010 Freedom Cycle: Empowering Women to Change Their World |
|

The 2010 Freedom Cycle is a long-distance bike ride to raise money for Yellowknife’s only family violence shelter, Alison McAteer House. The ride will begin July 31 in Yellowknife and end August 8th in Edmonton.
BHP Billiton is title sponsor of the 2010 Freedom Cycle, donating $10 per kilometer – a total of $15,810.00 The team riding to Edmonton will attempt to match this amount through pledges for their ride and other fund raising activities. On April 24, Iona Mackenzie (wearing the bandana) and Lisa Prosser (in the white skirt) organized a “Spin-A-Thon” at the Yellowknife Racquet Club. The team of 20 rode their stationary bikes for three hours. Together they raised $4000 in pledges. Now that’s dedication!
Alison McAteer House staff is looking forward to buying a new security system for the shelter, new furniture, and developing the fenced yard with a playground and gazebo.
