YWCA Yellowknife offers free weekly after-school sessions for girls ages 8 to 17, divided into three age groups. Sessions runs for about two hours.
GirlSpace reaches out to girls with quality programming addressing key social issues facing young women. Girls
have the opportunity to increase their awareness about violence and its root causes while exploring self, personal achievements and building on positive self-esteem.
Typical activities include journal writing, cooking, crafts, movie watching and outings to swim, skate and play.
Girls can make new friends, work together, connect to the community as volunteers, and learn, grow and share in a supportive, non-judgmental atmosphere.
Everyone is welcome! For more information, contact GirlSpace co-ordinator Ashley McDonald at 920-2777 ext 311 or send her an e-mail, Ashley@ywcanwt.ca. (Ashley is away Aug. 8-26.)
