Sponsor a family this Christmas!

The holidays can be a very stressful time for families on fixed or low incomes. Parents must often choose basic necessities over a special meal or gifts for their children. By sponsoring a family in the YWCA NWT housing program or a woman staying in shelters this holiday season, you can help spread some holiday joy and bring hope and happiness!

New this year: Sponsor an adult or a couple without children living in the transitional housing program. Stumped for gift ideas? Contact giving@ywcanwt.ca.

Sign up to support a family or individual by December 8, 2025

Here's how the YWCA NWT holiday family sponsorship program works:

  1. Review the Gift Value Guidelines on this page to determine which family size suits your budget or that of your workplace or organization. You can sponsor a family, individual adult, or a couple without children.

  2. Email us at giving@ywcanwt.ca and let us know what family size you would like to sponsor;

  3. We'll let you know the child's age, gender, if they are a single parent or two parent/guardian family, and a wish list (if we have received one from the family);

  4. Go shopping! (or supply gift cards if that is your preference);

  5. Drop off unwrapped gifts and grocery gift cards at the YWCA NWT housing office on the date/time provided in the e-mail sent out to sponsors - parents like to know the gifts their children are receiving. We'll send you a reminder e-mail with dates, times, and locations for drop-off.

  6. Feel great about bringing joy to a local family this holiday season!
